The availability of drugs and the numbers of young people using them has increased enormously over the past few years and therefore it is likely that at some point you will find yourself in a position where drugs are offered or made available to you.

You might have friends that are taking drugs and be feeling under pressure to ‘do drugs’ yourself or you might be reading this information sheet because you have dabbled in using drugs and now feel that things have got out of control. Nobody sets out to become an addict when they first experiment with drugs but the addictive elements of the substances contained within the drugs mean that some people will sadly become drug addicts.

If you are using drugs regularly (or thinking of using drugs) you might find the following information helpful:

  • The reasons for taking drugs are as individual as you are. You might be feeling that by taking drugs you are part of the ‘cool crowd‘. We know that it can feel really difficult to say ‘no’ to friends when they are egging you on to try drugs.
  • You might be using drugs because you feel unhappy or lonely, frightened or sad. Talking your feelings through with someone can really help and lessen your need to use the drugs to help you manage your feelings.
  • You may be confused by conflicting information about whether some drugs are legal or addictive. We can help you to know the facts.
  • It may be that your substance misuse is affecting your relationships with your family and friends. There are lots of ways in which we can help you to rebuild your relationships with others.
  • You might be worried that your use of drugs is affecting your mental and physical health. We can help you to know the facts.

What can we do for you?

Here at ‘Off The Record’ we have a team of skilled and supportive staff that can help you with any addictions you might have. In a warm and friendly environment, which is safe and confidential, we can help you to work towards kicking the habit.
