I'm a Parent/Carer
How Can I support My Young Person?
We all know that parenting can be as tricky as it can be wonderful. When things get tough for you and your family it can feel hard to see the way through. At OTR we can support the young person in your life to work through their issues, and we can also support you too through counselling and our parent support group You First.
OTR Here to support you
Watching your children learn, grow and develop into independent young people can be hard periodically. It can be especially difficult if they are struggling in some way, like knowing where to get support for them, or even how to start a sensitive conversation.
At Off The Record we run groupwork and 1-2-1 counselling for young people aged 11-25 but we also run 1-2-1 counselling for parents or carers of young people which you can do face to face, over the phone or on Zoom and can be arranged at a time to suit your schedule. We also run ‘You First’ a parenting support workshop which helps adults support the young people in their care.
We’ve created some animations that support the 5 ways of wellbeing practice. We created them with young people in mind, but the activities are relevant for everyone and are focused on taking notice, giving, learning something, connecting with others and being active, take a look at them and see if you can include parts of them into your life They can be found here on Vimeo
You are absolutely able to refer the young person to us using the webform above, but equally the young person can refer themselves too.
Your Journey with OTR starts here
1.You self-refer or are referred into OTR using the webform or calling us
2.You’ll then be put on a waiting list. Meanwhile our support workers will continue to check in with you each week
3.When you’re at the top of the waiting list we do an initial assessment to ensure we’re the right fit for you

4.In the initial assessment the counsellor will also talk you through counselling, group work and our young carers program
5.At this point you are assigned a counsellor that best suits your needs

6.You can do group work or young carers at any point – so it can be in conjunction with counselling, before or afterwards, in fact young carers is a long-term ongoing program
